Chives & Garlic

“Honey, I don’t like eating grass…”

This is a 3 minute recipe for cooking healthy and delicious chives. I like to eat chives in small portions, because sometimes the taste can be overwhelming, and I still cannot get over the mental barrier of eating *ahem* what looks like monkey grass from my yard. There is a 20 second difference between raw, onion-y chives and overdone, soggy chives, so the key really is to focus on the timing!


  • A bunch of chives, chopped into 2 in. long sections
  • 6-8 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil


Step 1. Heat 1.5 tbsp oil in a pan on high heat. Add garlic and stir fry until fragrant (~30 seconds).

Step 2. Add the base of the chives first (the parts closest to the root), and stir fry for ~30 seconds.

Step 3. Add remaining chives, and stir fry for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until the leaves turn a darker green but are still firm. Remove from heat immediately and serve.

This is great as a veggie side dish to your dinner!
