Salt and Pepper Prawns

Hey look! It’s a recipe without garlic!

Shrimp is one of my favorite foods, and the larger they are the better. Sadly, SuperHusband is allergic, so my mom cooks them especially for me whenever we go over for dinner. Here’s her simple recipe!


  • 6 large prawns
  • Dash of black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 stalk green onion
  • 1 slice ginger, julienned


Step 1. Wash prawns, gut and drain.

Step 2. On high heat, add 2 tbsp oil and add green onion and ginger. Stir fry until fragrant.

Step 3. Place prawns in pan, and cook ~5 minutes per side (just let them sit).

Step 4. Sprinkle half of the salt, sugar, and black pepper on the shrimp, flip around, and sprinkle the remainder on the other side. Flip a couple times to get an even coating of seasoning on the the shrimp. If needed, cover the pan for 1-2 min. until the shrimp are fully cooked.

Step 5. Plate and serve. Mmm…juicy! The pictures don’t do these prawns justice. They were twice the size of my finger.
